1. People are able to connect and share information in seconds. 

be able to do sth. 意为“能, 能够”,主要指具体做某件事的能力,有人称和时态的变化。情态动词can也表示“能,会”,只有现在时can和过去时could两种时态,没有人称变化。

例:Can you come tomorrow?

明天你能来吗?

He said that we could go there by bus.

他说我们可以乘公共汽车去那里。

Will you be able to come tomorrow?

明天你能来吗?

I’m able to do the work all by myself.

我能够独立做这项工作。

in seconds    短时间内;几秒钟之内  

You press a button and it comes on in seconds.

2. It helps us get things done more quickly.

get sth. done “完成,做完某事”,通常由自己完成。此外,get/have sth. done还有“让某人做某事”的意思。
