1.Earthquakes usually come without warning. 

without为介词,意为“没有”,后面跟动词时要用动名词形式,也可跟名词或代词。

2.Stay calm as the earth begins to shake and move. 

stay calm意为“保持镇静”。stay在此处为系动词,意为“保持……的状态”。calm为形容词,意为“平静的,镇静的”,用在stay后作表语。

【辨析】shake,move

(1)shake为动词,意为“颤抖,摇动”。还可以作名词,意为“摇动,抖动”,其过去式为shook。

(2)move用作及物动词时,意为“移动”。也可用作不及物动词,还可表示“搬家,感动”。

3.An earthquake is dangerous,but there are things you can do to protect yourself. 

本句中to protect yourself为动词不定式作目的状语。

4.You need to have something strong around you to protect you from falling objects. 

protect为及物动词,意为“保护”,其名词形式为protection。常用结构protect sth./sb. from doing sth.意为“保护……不受……之害”。

5.The kitchen is dangerous because there are so many glass objects. 

so many意为“如此多”,常用于修饰可数名词复数;修饰不可数名词时,用so much。

get into意为“进入”,反义短语为get out of,意为“从……出来”。

if引导的条件状语从句,主句为祈使句,从句要用一般现在时。
